Sometimes, when I buy fabrics, I will encounter such a parameter as “count S” and “count D”. What does the “S” of denim fabric mean? What does “d” mean? What’s the difference between fabric count and fabric denier?
What is the fabric count?
The count of fabric is a specification of yarn, which is usually represented by (S). It means: Under the normal moisture regain of 8.5%, how many yarns with a length of 840 yards are contained in a yarn weighing one pound? This is the count.
The count is related to the length and weight of the yarn.
The higher the count of the yarn, the thinner the yarn, the thinner the woven fabric and the softer the fabric.
For example, if one or two cotton yarns are processed into 30 yarns with a length of 1 meter, then he will have 30 yarns. Similarly, fabrics with high count require high quality of raw materials and high requirements for textile mills and machines, so the cost is higher. Generally, the practical count of home textile fabrics is 30S to 60S, while that of clothing fabrics is 32S to 7S. Common fabric specifications, such as: the light weight denim fabric 32*32, mean that the number of warp and weft yarns in this fabric is 40S, which is a common index of denim fabric.
What is the fabric d number?
The D number of the fabric is Daniel, which means that the yarn with a length of 9000m weighs 1G. -D=g/L*9000, where g is the weight (grams) of silk thread and l is the length (meters) of silk thread, expressing the weight of silk thread in unit length.
Common fabric specifications, such as: 300T 50D*50D spring sub-spun fabric, mean that the denier of warp and weft yarns of this fabric is 50D and the warp and weft density is 300T, which is a common index specification in chemical fiber textile industry.
Conversion relationship between fabric count (s) and Daniel (d);
Fabric count (S) and Daniel (D) both indicate the thickness of the yarn. he difference is that the greater the D number of the fabric, the larger the yarn; The greater the number of fabrics, the smaller the yarn.
D stands for denier, which is usually expressed in the denier of filament.
The count “s”is generally expressed in the denier of staple yarn.
Chemical fiber 5315 yarn/ (S)= denier (d)
Cotton fiber 5247 yarn /(S)= denier (d)
Cotton fabrics are generally thicker, while chemical fiber fabrics are generally thinner.
Generally, cotton fabrics are represented by S, while chemical fiber fabrics are represented by D.
in the end
The fabric has warp and weft directions,
If it is 32S*32S, indicating that it is a cotton fabric( the light weight denim fabric)
If it is 150D*300D means that this fabric is a chemical fiber fabric, with 150D warp and 300 d weft;
If it is 75S*150D, it means that this fabric is cotton polyester or cotton brocade, with 75S cotton yarn in the warp direction and 150D chemical fiber raw material in the weft direction.
